Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy to run around in or a compact stroller for the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are prone, however to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies that were the emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, while also looking elegant and easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on a newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it to be very robust. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) come with suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to consider. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat that allows the child to face you, while others only permit a parent-facing option.

A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4, and includes a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are excellent too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood, and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies - by Google, have the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This can also help in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel will lift up to keep you from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheel double stroller wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres which allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, and you'll require a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.

Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite wide and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This could be problematic if you intend to use it for jogging or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when traveling. Luckily, most models have small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeled buggy is more comfortable to drive with children. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can be turned on a dime and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for challenging terrain such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also amazed by how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel pushchair off road wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind when your home is an urban area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be a better option for you.
