1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. If you are having problems with this part, check for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector audi a3 keys and when i start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump
