The results of the coding process are compared with the original RI transcripts to determine how well they captured the underlying pragmatic behavior.

They also referred to external factors, like relational advantages. They described, for example, how their relations with their professors enabled them to function more easily in terms of the linguistic and cultural norms at their university.
However, the interviewees expressed concern about the social pressures and penalties that they might be subjected to if they strayed from their social norms. They were worried that their native interactants might perceive them as "foreigners" and believe that they are not intelligent. This concern was similar in nature to that expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These results suggest that native-speaker practical norms are not the preferred choice of Korean learners. They could still be useful for official Korean proficiency testing. But it would be prudent for future researchers to reassess their usefulness in particular situations and in various cultural contexts. This will allow them to better know how different cultures may impact the pragmatic behavior of students in the classroom and beyond. Additionally it will assist educators to create more effective methods for teaching and testing the korea-based pragmatics.
